Overview
Alcohol Prep Pads are individually foil-sealed, non-woven pads saturated with 70% isopropyl alcohol. They are the disinfection step in every peptide reconstitution workflow: swabbing the rubber stopper of a diluent vial, peptide vial or empty aliquot vial before it is punctured, and wiping down the working surface and hands before handling sterile syringes.
Each pad is a two-ply, medium-weight swab sized to cover a vial stopper or a small area of bench in a single pass. Because every pad is sealed on its own, the alcohol does not evaporate in the box, and the pad is clean and fully wetted at the moment it is opened. The 70% concentration is the standard for surface disinfection — it contains enough water to penetrate cell walls rather than simply fixing the surface, and it flashes off in seconds without leaving a residue that could enter the vial on the next needle pass.

What are alcohol prep pads used for in peptide reconstitution?
They are used to disinfect the rubber stopper of every vial before a needle is inserted — bacteriostatic water, the peptide vial and any sterile empty vials being filled — and to wipe the working surface. Swabbing before each entry is standard aseptic technique for keeping multi-draw vials free of contamination.
Why 70% isopropyl alcohol rather than a stronger concentration?
Seventy percent is the accepted optimum for surface disinfection. The water fraction slows evaporation and helps the alcohol penetrate microbial cells, whereas 90–99% alcohol flashes off too fast and tends to fix surface proteins without killing what is underneath. Seventy percent also dries within seconds so there is no delay before needle entry.
How many pads do I need per reconstitution?
As a rule, one pad per stopper entry: one for the diluent vial, one for the peptide vial, and one for each aliquot vial, plus a pad or two for the bench. A box of 100 pairs naturally with a pack of 100 syringes; the box of 200 gives headroom for surface wipes and diluent vials.
Are the pads sterile and individually wrapped?
Yes. Each two-ply pad is saturated with 70% isopropyl alcohol and sealed in its own foil sachet, so it stays wet and clean until opened. Lot information appears on the box and is available on request. Being a swab rather than a peptide, HPLC purity does not apply.
How should prep pads be stored and disposed of?
Store sealed at room temperature away from heat, sparks and open flame, since isopropyl alcohol is flammable. Discard any pad that has dried out. Used pads go into normal laboratory waste; they are not sharps and should not take up space in a sharps container.
