Overview

Epitalon, also written epithalon or epithalamin, is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. It was developed in St. Petersburg by Vladimir Khavinson's group as a short synthetic analogue of epithalamin, a peptide preparation originally extracted from the pineal gland. At 390.35 g/mol it is one of the smallest peptides in common research use, and it belongs to the class of Russian bioregulator peptides.

Our epitalon is made by solid-phase synthesis, purified by preparative HPLC and supplied as a lyophilized powder in a sealed vial. Every lot is tested for purity and identity with a Certificate of Analysis available before purchase. For laboratory research use only.

Questions about Epitalon (Epithalon)

What is epitalon?

Epitalon is a synthetic tetrapeptide with the sequence Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly, developed as a short analogue of the pineal preparation epithalamin. It is used in laboratory research on telomerase activity, circadian signaling and cellular senescence models.

Is epitalon the same as epithalon?

Yes. Epitalon, epithalon and the AEDG peptide are different spellings and designations for the same four-residue molecule. Epithalamin refers to the older pineal extract preparation rather than the defined synthetic tetrapeptide.

How is purity verified?

Every lot is tested by reverse-phase HPLC for purity of ≥99% and by mass spectrometry for identity against the expected 390.35 g/mol mass. The lot-matched Certificate of Analysis is available on this page before you order.

What sizes are available?

Epitalon is supplied in 10 mg, 20 mg and 50 mg lyophilized vials. Because the molecule is small, one milligram represents a comparatively large molar quantity, so many laboratories find the 10 mg vial sufficient for pilot work.

How should epitalon be stored?

Keep the lyophilized vial at −20 °C, protected from light and moisture. After reconstitution store at 2–8 °C, protect from light, and use within your validated study window; aliquoting reduces degradation from repeated temperature cycling.
