Questions about Sterile Water for Reconstitution
Why would I choose sterile water instead of bacteriostatic water?
Sterile water contains no benzyl alcohol, making it the right choice when a preservative could affect an assay, when a peptide is sensitive to benzyl alcohol, or when a reconstituted solution will be used at once or frozen in aliquots. For multi-draw vials stored in a refrigerator, bacteriostatic water is usually preferred.
What sizes are offered?
Sterile Water for Reconstitution is available in 10 mL and 30 mL vials. Because the product is single-use, many laboratories favor the 10 mL size so less is discarded after each reconstitution; the 30 mL vial suits larger one-time preparations.
Is the water tested and documented?
The vials are manufactured as sterile, non-pyrogenic water and every vial is labeled with a lot number and expiration date. Documentation for the supplied lot is available on request. As a plain reagent, purity by HPLC is not the applicable metric; sterility and endotoxin limits are.
How should sterile water be stored?
Store sealed vials at 20–25 °C, protected from light, and do not freeze the sealed container. Inspect the vial for an intact seal and a clear, particulate-free appearance before each use, and discard any vial that appears cloudy or damaged.
